Here’s the track list of the soundtrack of The Descendants, the drama comedy movie directed by Alexander Payne and starring George Clooney:
The Descendants is the first mainstream American movie scored exclusively with Hawaiian music, most of it created by acknowledged masters of the genre, both modern and classical Gabby Pahinui, Ray Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson, and Rev. Dennis Kamakahi, among others. The filmmakers sought to make a movie with a distinctly Hawaiian flavor, and the music was a crucial component. As well as echoing the experience of watching the film, The Descendants soundtrack will reveal to listeners the soulful and emotional spectrum of Hawaiian music over the decades and serve as an eye-opening introduction to some of Hawaiian music s greatest and most essential artists.

Richard – what is the name of the song in the end credits directly before “Mom”? I’m wracking my brains trying to find it!
Mahalo nui loa!

HIâILAWE
Performed by Ernest Tavares
hi Brandon,
that is the Ernest Tavares’ wonderful rendition of ‘Hi’ilawe’!
not sure where that version is available on CD.
A comp called Hukilau Hulas on GNP Crescendo
The song can be found on Hukilau Hulas – not an easy CD to find, but I got mine from Australia for $9.00 and it was worth it.
Freddie and Ernie Tavaresâ song âHiâilaweâ song is still available no MP3 and CD.
It is track #19 from the 1959 collection âHukilau Hulasâ. Luckily, Amazon still has this and you can purchase this single song.
Hiâilawe MP3
Unfortunately, Amazon misspelled the song and performer.
This CD collection has gotten favorable reviews.
You’ve probably heard Freddie Tavares many times and didn’t know it: He plays the swooping steel guitar glissando at the beginning of most Warner Bros. cartoons!
Freddie Tavares also helped design the Fender Stratocaster.
